Small-sample Performance of a Modified Least-failures Sampling Procedure for Bernoulli Subset Selection

چکیده
We describe two sequential sampling procedures for Bernoulli subset selection which were shown to exhibit desirable behavior for large-sample problems. These procedures have identical performance characteristics in terms of the number of observations taken from any one of the populations under investigation, but one of the procedures employs one-at-a-time sampling while the other allows observations to be taken in blocks during early stages of experimentation. In this paper, a simulation study of their behavior for small-sample cases (n ≤ 25) reveals that they can result in a savings (sometimes substantial) in the expected total number of observations required to terminate the experiment as compared to the single-stage procedure. Hence they may be quite useful to a practitioner for screening purposes when sampling is limited. Full citation: Sanchez, S. M. Cut-off Sampling Design: Take all, Take Some, and Take None
Extended Abstract. Sampling is the process of selecting units (e.g., people, organizations) from a population of interest so that by studying the sample we may fairly generalize our results back to the population from which they were chosen. To draw a sample from the underlying population, a variety of sampling methods can be employed, individually or in combination. Cut-off sampling is a pr...
متن کاملThe Effect of Estimation Error on Risk-adjusted Bernoulli GEWMA Control Chart in Multistage Healthcare Processes
Background and objectives: Risk-adjusted Bernoulli control chart is one of the main tools for monitoring multistage healthcare processes to achieve higher performance and effectiveness in healthcare settings. Using parameter estimates can lead to significantly deteriorate chart performance. However, so far, the effect of estimation error on this chart in which healthcare ...
متن کاملFeature Selection for Small Sample Sets with High Dimensional Data Using Heuristic Hybrid Approach
Feature selection can significantly be decisive when analyzing high dimensional data, especially with a small number of samples. Feature extraction methods do not have decent performance in these conditions. With small sample sets and high dimensional data, exploring a large search space and learning from insufficient samples becomes extremely hard. As a result, neural networks and clustering a...
متن کاملVariable Selection in Measurement Error Models.
Measurement error data or errors-in-variable data are often collected in many studies. Natural criterion functions are often unavailable for general functional measurement error models due to the lack of information on the distribution of the unobservable covariates. Typically, the parameter estimation is via solving estimating equations. In addition, the construction of such estimating equatio...
متن کاملA Parallel Genetic Algorithm Based Method for Feature Subset Selection in Intrusion Detection Systems
Intrusion detection systems are designed to provide security in computer networks, so that if the attacker crosses other security devices, they can detect and prevent the attack process. One of the most essential challenges in designing these systems is the so called curse of dimensionality. Therefore, in order to obtain satisfactory performance in these systems we have to take advantage of app...
